"WORKSPACE" ACCORDING TO THE STUDENTSThe fourth edition of Design and Education Program of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań ends in an exhibition presenting prototypes of prized designs. The exhibition will probably inspire a new approach to the “Workspace”, both as regards the exhibition and the daily - office ones. PE-P is a project intended for students willing to confront their ideas with the process of manufacturing furniture of their own design. The following furniture manufacturers were invited to participate in the project: Schattdecor, Balma Factory of Furniture and PROFIm. The students of AFA are provided with good background on fine arts. Thanks to such programs they receive all details regarding the technology, materials, in other words, they are furnished with a practical knowledge which makes it possible to turn a concept into a product. The reason why we have agreed to participate in the project is that, in our opinion, students should be allowed to acquire that specific knowledge, hence we are pleased to join the program initiated by the AFA of Poznań. This year’s program edition focused on three aspects of designer’s trade: architect’s workplace, conference seat and the “art of writing and storage” – some sort of a versatile workplace. Before, however, any specific designs were created, the participants underwent comprehensive theoretical schooling, followed by practical training in companies taking part in the project. It was mainly intended to acquire knowledge of the materials, used to make furniture, and of the manufacturing process itself. Several months of work eventually paid off. Chosen (and prized) designs, thanks to the entrepreneurs involved in the program, were turned into the real thing. They could admire the products on the “Workspace” exhibition during the Poznań Fair “Furniture – Office 2005”. Perhaps they will inspire an alternative approach to our daily workplace, and be a proof to the furniture manufacturers, that passion of the young is worth attention, since the collective efforts bring noteworthy effects. |
