CHROMING FACILITYA modern chrome plating shop, designed to fully match the specific nature of the production of metal frames, has been operating in one of the PROFIm plants since 2006. This enables the company to implement technologically demanding products, while keeping their top quality. In an attempt to meet the customers’ requirements and follow the current trends in Europe, which put an increasing emphasis on environmental protection in the production process, we have decided to introduce technological changes to the chromium plating process. A change in the technology consists in replacing the electroplating bath containing hexavalent chromium compounds with bath based on trivalent chromium compounds. Decorative chromium plating of nickel plated items is carried out on an analogous basis to hexavalent chromium baths; this process, however, is much more environmentally friendly. A Chromium III coat develops as a layer of Chromium III compounds building up on an item through the direct current flow. Chromium plated items are subject to a series of rinsing with recovery and replenishing of bath components. Trivalent chromium plated items are shiny and do not differ from the coats resulting from baths based on hexavalent chromium. Such a bath, in turn, has better throwing power and metal distribution, is less prone to burn-on and has better current efficiency. A bath based on trivalent chromium is also more human health and the natural environmentally friendly since is does not contain carcinogenic and mutagenic compounds and has lower concentration of chromium compounds. PROFIm chrome plating shop is one of the few plating shops in Poland to operate in the CHROMIUM III technology, which, combined with a large efficiency of chromium plating of relatively large items (3600x1600x700 mm) makes it the largest automated electroplating line in Central and Eastern Europe. |
